Putin doesn't even believe that, he just knows he has a better chance at manipulating his own population by accusing the Ukrainians of being Nazis. Putin just wants Russia to be restored to a great power like USSR and wants to be known like Catherine the Great, but his actions make him look more like Ivan the Terrible.

Agree hence why my comment. Pretty weak excuse to go to war. Can't believe people believe it.
