In modern times, not necessarily. Plenty of examples of short-lived conflicts that literally are called 'x' Day War, even among large states. 

Not necessarily as you say but more often than not they do extend over a more protracted timespan. There have been some shorter conflicts such as Russia’s invasion of Georgia (which was over in under 2 weeks), the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh War (1 month) and the Libyan Civil War (8 months, which is remarkably short for a civil war) but most are more protracted.
