I understand this concern, but I don't think this is very applicable here, because unlike North Korea, Russia aspires to be a great and influential nation on a global scale, and its people are used to being connected with the rest of the world. Also, I'm not sure how well they'd be able to sustain themselves when more and more are now refusing to buy oil from them. |
What imports does Russia rely on? If they can feed themselves, then it doesn't matter in the long run.
I don't know whether Putin cares about being influential on a global scale, seems he wants the old Russia back. But indeed, the people are still mostly free and capable of resistance. Hopefully the protests keep ongoing, applying pressure from all angles.
North/South Korea formed when Russia and the USA split up Korea at the end of WWII, liberating the peninsula from Japan. That led to the Korean war in 1950 which got us the lovely series M.A.S.H. The North dug in and became what it is today.
Anyway instead of sending more weapons, it would be better to put more focus on helping the refugees. It's getting kinda grim at the Polish border.
