I don't think they'll sahre the same fate because there are some key differences that put both ideas apart.
The Steam Deck is build by Valve and every unit will feature the same hardware, while the Steam Machines only needed to ship with SteamOS and Steam installed to be called that, resulting in machines with a wide range of hardware and prices (most of them also overpriced).
