Don't forget the users on this site and on forums like ResetEra parroting these same talking points lol. Its insane how many people wanted to believe PS5 was RDNA 1.5 even when AMD made an official announcement about it. 

From what I saw, most of that was in response to the "so much faster SSD" secret sauce comments from those on the other side.  Its insane how many people hold on to that even to this day.  Then others who realized how ridiculous it sounded try to pretend it did not happen.  In the end, console wars end up being a good popcorn flick for multi console gamers above all else.

Truth is the difference was never going to be that big on either side, and these are still cross gen games and ports designed with gen 8 hardware in mind.  We still have not seen these machines optimized to their max potential.  These comparisons are still not much of a bar and we will see a lot more impressive feats in another year or so.

Overall however, I agree differences will be minimal and really boil down to what the lead platform was, and how well it was ported to the other.
