I don't think complaining is a bad thing because it can lead to a better experience if the company listens. Imagine if people didn't complain about Halo Infinite's original showing, it would still look like an early xbox one game made by an indie studio. Yes gaming these days are better in some ways but it's also certainly worse in other ways. The idea of being able to buy the full game and getting all the content is becoming more and more rare. So while it is easier to access the base game, it doesn't mean you get the full game and yes, cosmetics are part of the game.

Think of it this way, a company like Activision has a better battlepass system than Halo Infinite on their free to play Call of Duty Warzone. Imo, if you're game has a worse system than Activision of all companies, you are absolutely doing something wrong.

I think that's mostly down to devs these days seeing how mobile app devs do things as their process is to just release an app that's somewhat finished, but built upon down the line, and though we did have a load of buggy and even unfinished games way back in the day, games these days seem to be fully going into the mobile dev side of things, releasing games half baked and expecting customer outrage, but knowing it will be built upon down the line.

I don't like it, because we all know that devs can and have hired people to come test their games and actually spend 3-5 years making a good game. These days we see even some AAA's spending as little as 2-3 years, because of sequelitis setting into an IP.

There are some indie games that have spend many years in dev, like Project zomboid, but you can tell the dev is doing it as a labour of love and that's one example I'm fine with (given the limited resources), but for AAA's?, hell naw, they have the publisher and should have the budget and time to boot, but sadly we're hearing stories about both budget and time being restrained, leaving only the publisher to call the shots and it shows how tone deaf half of them are.

that being said, I do wish we could do something about F2P games, without having to include loot boxes and BP systems, because one induces stupid amounts of FOMO in some people and the other induces a collection habit (which can also be a weakness for some), both of which aren't exactly healthy when in the old days, the former (being cosmetics) was there for you to unlock entirely for free, with zero strings attached (which also meant next to no complaints, because it was entirely up to you to go unlock them instead of paying).

I think I would be far less jaded and complaining, if AAA's didn't entirely think they have to rely on F2P and lootboxes and just went back to the old days of giving you a full game with unlockables and not having me second guess if I'm being FOMO induced or having to pay extra for something.
