Wednesday news, part two:

Microsoft Flight Simulator is getting DirectX 12 support and its first official military jet
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/microsoft-flight-simulator-is-getting-directx-12-support-and-its-first-official-military-jet/
Microsoft Flight Simulator is pretty great. (...) On November 18 that already-excellent journey through the digital clouds will be updated to the Game of the Year Edition, which will add five new aircraft to the lineup including the game's first military aircraft, eight new airports, and new missions, tutorials, an updated weather system, new photogrammetry cities (Helsinki, Freiburg im Breisgua, Brighton, Derby, Eastbourne, Newcastle, Nottingham, and Utretcht), and "early support" for DirectX 12.
>> I'm surprised it wasn't a DX12 game from the beginning, being a MSoft title and all that.

https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/halo-disintegration-veteran-marcus-lehto-is-starting-a-new-studio-under-ea/
Halo veteran Marcus Lehto's last attempt to start afresh didn't go down so well. But never one for giving up, Lehto today announced that he's begun working with EA to build another new studio.
>> I wish him better luck. Working with EA, he'll need it.

Microsoft is 'definitely not done' acquiring studios
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/microsoft-is-definitely-not-done-acquiring-studios/
Phil Spencer says that Microsoft isn't quite done buying game studios.
"I'm really proud of some of the creators that have chosen to become part of Xbox," Spencer said during the Wall Street Journal Tech Live event, which has been transcribed by VGC. He went on to explain how many of Xbox's acquisitions have been studios it already has "long-term relationships with."
>> Wanna play? Which studio could they buy next?

Fortnite's Dune crossover features the goofiest looking sandworm ever
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/fortnites-dune-crossover-features-the-goofiest-looking-sandworm-ever/
Fortnite's latest crossover is with none other than Dune, Denis Villeneuve's upcoming big-screen take on Frank Herbert's epic sci-fi novel. You won't find Sting in a diaper amidst any of the many new cosmetics, I'm sorry to say, but you will catch a glimpse of what I'm pretty sure is the goofiest-looking sandworm ever envisioned.

Yarrr! Get a free Pirate King Garrosh skin in Hearthstone for logging in
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/hearthstone-free-skins-hallows-end-2021/
I've long wrestled with the dilemma of which skin to use while experimenting with my various failed Quest Warrior decks. (These can be best summed up as 'Yo, ho, no.') Rokara seems like thematically she fits in Rush decks, classic Garrosh is more of a Control Warrior kinda guy, and it'll be a cold day on the Burning Steppes when you catch me using Magni Bronzebeard for anything. Thankfully, Team 5 came in clutch today with the Pirate King Garrosh skin, which is being given away free as part of Hearthstone's annual Hallow's End event.

https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/a-new-splinter-cell-rumor-points-to-a-mainline-game-in-development/
Another year, another new Splinter Cell rumor: This one comes to us from VGC, which says "development sources" have told it that Ubisoft has finally thrown a thumbs-up to a new "mainline" game in the series. The new project is currently in the early stages of production and so still a long way off, but could be officially revealed sometime in 2022.

Activision Blizzard wants California lawsuit paused due to alleged ethics violation
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/activision-blizzard-wants-california-lawsuit-paused-due-to-alleged-ethics-violation/
Activision Blizzard has filed a motion to temporarily halt proceedings in the lawsuit filed against it in July by the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing. The publisher wants a time-out to collect evidence in relation to a surprising allegation against the DFEH that could give the company an advantage when the case proceeds.
>> Well, apparently they know a thing or two about not being ethical themselves...

Activision Blizzard has shed at least 20 staff as a result of harassment investigations
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/activision-blizzard-has-shed-at-least-20-staff-as-a-result-of-harassment-investigations/
Activision Blizzard says that more than 20 employees have "exited" the company in recent months due to ongoing investigations into workplace harassment. Meanwhile, more than 20 employees have faced disciplinary action. This follows a ramping up of internal policy and process in response to California's bombshell lawsuit filing in July.

https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/guardians-of-the-galaxy-is-somehow-now-80gb-instead-of-150gb/
Eidos Montreal has mercifully squashed the file size for Guardians of the Galaxy. The system requirements for the game landed on Steam a few days ago. (...)
(...) A tweet from the Guardians of the Galaxy account read "we wanted to give you an update on the final size of the PC version of the game, which will not be 150GB. The team is in the last stages of optimizing the final game and we can confirm the file size will be approximately 80GB at launch."

Ubisoft's multi-disciplinary extreme sports sandbox Rider's Republic has opened up a few times ahead of launch. Fitting, then, that the publisher is giving you one last shot to get in early with a free Trial Week starting tomorrow through October 27.

New World update brings server transfers and stops housepets teleporting into storage chests
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/new-world-update-brings-server-transfers-and-stops-housepets-teleporting-into-storage-chests/
New World has a new update, version 1.0.3, and the main feature of it is server transfers. As the head of Amazon Games reflected shortly after launch: "I would have had character transfers ready on day one—we knew they were important, but we chose gameplay features as a priority running up to launch. We’ll get transfers in soon; the feature is already well in-progress."

No Man's Sky's latest expedition lets you ride the worm, become the worm
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/no-mans-skys-latest-expedition-lets-you-ride-the-worm-become-the-worm/
Despite their notable absence at launch, No Man's Sky has some bloody great worms hidden across the galaxy these days. The interstellar sandbox's next expedition now tasks you with hunting down the greatest of these wriggly lads, figure out how to ride them, and perhaps become a worm yourself.
