Jeff Strain, founder of State of Decay developer Undead Labs and former lead programmer on World of Warcraft, this week announced the formation of new studio Possibility Space—and is starting off with some proper impressive talent.

Ghost Recon Frontline beta test delayed one day before it was set to start
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/ghost-recon-frontline-beta-test-delayed-one-day-before-it-was-set-to-start/
Ghost Recon Frontline was announced last week as a free class-based battle royale set in the Clancyverse, the only cinematic setting in which Jim from The Office is an action hero. Frontline will support multiple modes, battles of more than 100 players, and, unlike most battle royales, also features an extraction mechanic akin to Hunt: Showdown: (...)
The plan was to hold the first round of closed beta testing from October 14-21, but Ubisoft announced today—one day before the scheduled start—that it's decided to put things on hold.

https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/solar-ash-release-date-delayed/
Solar Ash, the next game from Hyper Light Drifter developer Heart Machine, has been delayed. Heart Machine and publisher Annapurna Interactive announced the decision on Wednesday, saying the game will be pushed from its original October release date to December 2, 2021.

Electronic Arts may be dropping the FIFA license for one simple reason: it costs too much

According to the New York Times, the reason is entirely predictable: money. The report says FIFA wants more than twice as much as it is currently getting for the licensing rights, which would take EA's cost to more than $1 billion for each four-year cycle between World Cups. FIFA also apparently wants to put limits on EA's exclusivity: EA Sports reportedly wants to pursue other FIFA-related monetization options such as highlights of real soccer games, tournaments, and NFTs, because of course NFTs are involved. FIFA—which by the way stands for Fédération Internationale de Football Association, or International Federation of Association Football—would rather reserve some of those money-making options for itself.

F1 2021 adds long absent Imola circuit
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/f1-2021-adds-long-absent-imola-circuit/
The second of three promised post-launch track additions has just rolled out for F1 2021, and it's an especially interesting one. The Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari—better known as Imola—is an Italian track that hasn't appeared in an F1 game since the 2013 outing. That's largely due to the circuit's absence from the real F1 calendar: it has been absent since 2006, though returned in 2020 and earlier this year when it hosted the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.

Call of Duty: Warzone players are too fed up with cheaters to protest kernel level anti-cheat
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/warzone-ricochet-kernel-anti-cheat/
The new Call of Duty: Warzone anti-cheat system, called Ricochet, will include a kernel-mode driver that gives Activision the ability to access any bit of memory on your PC. Reddit user t_hugs3 seemed to speak for a lot of Warzone players when they said that giving Activision that kind of power "doesn't sit right" with them—and that they've been killed by so many cheaters that they could "honestly give a shit at this point."

In space, no one can hear you honk with this horrifying Destiny 2 goose mask
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/honk-moon-mask-destiny-2/
As a nod to 2019's best game about nature's greatest jerk, Untitled Goose Game, Destiny 2 has added a new mask that gives you a horrifyingly honk-worthy mask.
The "Honk Moon Mask" was introduced in Destiny 2 as part of the game's Festival of the Lost Halloween event. The mask itself is a low-poly orb that looks less like a goose and more like the moon in Majora's Mask overdid its makeup. Then there's the "beak," which looks like the end of a vuvuzela from hell.

Elden Ring rated in Australia, proving that it still exists
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/elden-ring-rated-in-australia-proving-that-it-still-exists/
Elden Ring has been rated MA15+ in Australia, which is no surprise because that's the rating given to Dark Souls, Dark Souls 3, Bloodborne, and Sekiro (curiously, Dark Souls 2 was only hit with a comparatively chilled-out M). The RPG is described as having "strong fantasy themes and violence" as well as "online interactivity," and yeah: none of this is new, it's just nice to be reminded that Elden Ring still exists, and is coming soon.

Build an adorable micro solar system for a hungry sun in Heliopedia

As my poor creatures have rapidly discovered, being adorable won't stop you from the dangers of rapidly escalating carbon dioxide levels in cutesy solar sandbox Heliopedia.

Minecraft once more asks fans to decide the game's next mob
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/minecraft-once-more-asks-fans-to-decide-the-games-next-mob/
At each year's Minecraft Live, block-building developer Mojang lines up three new monster concepts and forces them to fight for fan votes to survive. This weekend's show is no different, with the Allay, Glare and Copper Golem now waiting to see which of them will make it into Minecraft—with the rest likely dragged into some poor developer's recycle bin.

Rocket League goes all-in on Batman for Halloween
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/rocket-league-goes-all-in-on-batman-for-halloween/
The hero Rocket League deserves has returned: or, at least, his cars have. Psyonix's spectacular car football game holds a Haunted Hallows event every year for Halloween, and this time it's Batman-themed.

https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/final-fantasy-14-is-the-most-profitable-final-fantasy-ever-says-director/
When Final Fantasy 14 first launched in 2010, it was an absolute shambles. And yet, 11 years, 3 expansions and one total reboot later, director Naoki Yoshida explains that the colossal MMO is now the most profitable Final Fantasy of the lot.
