Why have a police department at all then? Why investigate murders? Why not just give all murderers the benefit of the doubt and trust them when they say "self-defense"? Hiring a jury, judge, and lawyers isn't stupid. Of course the cops told him to stay inside. He wasn't trained for this kind of situation and could have gotten himself killed. The cops (who were trained for just this) were on their way. According to one article, a detective was already on the scene when he started shooting. He didn't know what he was doing and 2 people died. |
I think you may not fully understand my position. I feel that in a situation in which someone is invading my home and threatening my family and home I should be qualified as head of my house and the property owner to take law enforcement action. I should not have to wait for the police and I should not have to worry about being arrested for protecting my family. I also dont think tax money should be spent on an investigation; the police should be using their time protecting victims and catching criminals, not persecuting someone who refused to be victimized.
With that said, I'm not looking to kill someone. I respect life a lot. I think That Guy said it best a few posts up. I'm not going to kill to protect my flat-screen tv or Nintendo Wii, but threatening my wife and children (should I have some) will be a very unwise move for a criminal with a goal to live.
In this case, imagine if Mr. Horn was a cop. If a cop told the criminals at gun point to freeze and not move and they made sudden movements at night, that cop can, and in most cases will shoot. That's a matter of self defense, it can't be assumed that they will simply run away; what if they tackle you? or what if one had a firearm too? Would that cop be charged? I don’t think so.
