PSNow and Gamepass are more similar than you think, and while Streaming is an option (And the only option for PS3 games), you CAN download a portion of the games to your hard drive. so while they're not identical, they are more alike than you think. Xbox's controller is nowhere near the same level as PS5's Dualsense. You can't compare expensive controllers that cost as much as a system to one another. The default controllers that come with the consoles are not even on the same level. this isn't even an opinion, it's an indisputable fact. While yes it's true that both are out of stock, there's a lot more to it than that. One, PS5 is still outselling by a wide margin, and two, in mainstream culture PS gets far more love and attention and is a part of a brand that has far more legacy and has a far more consistent track record. PS is continuing its momentum, so it's fair to assume it will do so. Again, like I've said a dozen times and will continue to say until it changes: Xbox is promising more this generation. Until they deliver on it, it means nothing. Sure, they're not DRM machines (Though GamePass is its own form of DRM, a different route to the same concept of being able to control what games you have access to) and they're not pushing Kinect, but where they haven't gotten any major gaffes, they still don't have games. And, as the PS5 and Switch (And Sony/Nitnendo as a whole) have proven it's that games DO matter. The marginal difference in power is NOT as significant as you seem to think. Rarely does the most powerful console win its generation. Xbox was stronger than Gamecube and PS2 and the PS2 destroyed it. PS3 was the most powerful console that generation and it lost to the Wii - a system barely stronger than the PS2. The Xbox One X was by far the strongest console last generation and it didn't come close to PS4's output. PSP lost to DS, Vita got destroyed by 3DS. Power does not equal public love. Hell, look at iPhones. They lack the raw power of Samsung and Huawei phones yet perform similarly and sell remarkably well. IT's not about power, it's about what you do with it. I find it shocking that people keep trying to push that narrative. IT was a stupid argument when PS3 fanboys claimed it and it's just as foolish now. And...the difference in performance between Xbox Series X and PS5 is so minute that people literally need computers and machines to calculate the differences in framerates and loading times. for all intents and purposes, the two devices are identical. If you need to go to digital foundry to learn that the Xbox has slightly better resolution or framerates, then it's not enough to matter to the average consumer. And, like, the Switch is selling the best and the games that do the best are the ones that aren't that impressive. Pokemon sword and Shield are notoriously simple and rudimentary games and yet, BAM, 20+ million sold. Power. Does. Not. Matter. To. The. Average. Consumer. and do we really need to go over all the differences in games/exclusives? Again, I've heard the same 'Microsoft has xxx studios under their belt' for half a decade now and virtually nothing has come of it. For a year or two after the initial acquisitions, sure! Games take time, and nobody can expect the momentum to shift on a dime like that. but we've been experiencing a drought ever since 2017 with only a trickling of exclusives on Microsoft's side. I'm sorry, but all these promises mean absolutely nothing until we actually see some game releases. When I look at sony and their future slate of games, I can go 'yeah, the last Horizon game and the last God of War games were generation-defining. I think it's fair to say their sequels will be good'. or 'man, the people who made Returnal made a fantastic game that was a new IP, I'm looking forward to whatever they do next'. There's history there. there's a pedigree to consider. You can look at companies that have done well in the past and say 'they have earned the benefit of the doubt'. Can you say that with Microsoft? And the companies that they Do have are suffering a lot lately. Bethesda's reputation is in the shitter thanks to Fallout 76. Rare hasn't made a good game since their Nintendo days (Okay, Sea of Thieves is apparently good now but it took, what, two years on the market to be not-shitty? Sorry, that's not a glowing endorsement). The Initiative? They have no history. Very few of the studios Microsoft owns have any momentum at this time. I get having hope. I understand that we all want these companies to do well. I would love for one of these studios to suddenly break out and create the next mega hit. Everyone would. but until that happens, the promises are empty. Until we actually see all these games come out and they actually do well, it's nothing more than potential. Y'all need to stop touting these studios as sure things. You can't keep saying it's gonna be good without any good coming of it. When the games come out and we see how they do, we can reconvene and discuss matters. In the meantime, it's fiction. IT's your fantasy and nothing more. |
Not trying to fan any flames or anything but I dissagre with the notion that all companies must do well. We cant keep suporting some of the worst outcomes in history because of the notion of competition. Cuz what we are doing is rewarding mediocrity and punishing Excellency. Especially when it's one of if not the most lucrative companies in the world. They don't need our support and have all the means to turn things around on their own.
Like you said. They have been promissing things for years now and still we have seen nothing from them. I would say untill we actually have content from them can we say that we would like to support competition. Cuz first and foremost a product needs to be competitive before you want to invest in it. Cuz right now xbox has no incentive to change of fans will just justify everything in the name of competition.
It takes genuine talent to see greatness in yourself despite your absence of genuine talent.
