Wow I was on a wait and see aproach to this game. But this puts it pretty clear what their target audience is.

I just don't get the thinking of companies abandoning the current fanbase to try and chase a group that has shown zero interest in what you done before. I guess they are thinking of star wars where the fans and the new target all watch then the fans abandon it and they keep the new young audience. Because lets be honest fans are masochist and it took a few butchering of the franchise for them to be fed up. Thats a ton of money for the companies.

They are primarily using a beloved and fun IP for their own personal pursuit for diversity, which is what I would call bastardization, because they aren't here to make something they like, they are here to make something we, the main target audience want.

This is why I'm looking at the comic book industry from afar and seeing the same tune playing out and it's all what the creators want, not what the readers are after and paying for. Even with WoW, we saw users testing Shadowlands beta for months before the official release and the users gave tons of feedback, but did Blizzard listen to that feedback?, no, they just went ahead with the shit no one liked and only now, after the recent scandals and massive loss of subs, are they looking to fix the damage.

The reason why these companies do this is mainly because they have this ongoing paranoia that us the fans, are one day going to "outgrow" them and move onto other pastures, but the thing is, we haven't had an actual sequel to SR since III, and that was pretty much nearing a decade ago. They think that by aiming for an entirely new audience, they'll somehow gain more profit, while safely distancing and expunging the previous fanbase in the process (Which let's be honest, almost any big corp would love the freedom to just toss us out on w him if we don't meet their sales expectations. They just don't want to be that honest about it).

Utter nonsense, saying Saints Row 4 and Gat out of Hell left them with nowhere to go. SR4's ending teased a possible time travel plotline, they could have done multiple smaller open world maps for different cities in different time periods, put some historical figure NPC's into the game including new companions that you would take with you to other timelines, got all anachronistic with it, it would have been fun. Gat out of Hell meanwhile left them with a different option, with the retcon the timeline choice God gives you at the end. That ending set up a new Saints Row world where Matt, Kinzie, and Gat were all cops. They could have rolled with that, did some kind of cops vs gangs game where some members of the Saints are still Saints (including the customizable player character "the boss") and some are Cops (including Matt, Kinzie, Gat and a few others), and though they are against each other for part of the game, eventually have to work together to stop a bigger threat to both of them. They also could have taken a completely different route, started over completely fresh with the same characters but a new setting and a new story. Instead they give us these new characters that we already all hate.

They did that to themselves in all honesty, but that reboot could have worked, had they just stayed with the original cast, given us new gangs instead and possibly a new Stillwater, like a new alternate reality, but instead we're stuck with Gen Z cringelords who don't know wtf they are even doing (which makes for shitty writing, even if they try for comedy).

You know what's really going to suck for their writing though?, if the main boss you play as can only be one gender, because SR for as long as I can remember, has allowed you to play either male or female of your own choice, and if they take that away and give us that shaved head gal, then I'm gonna be honest, the writing will be garbage, because her one liner already gave that away.

I've seen and heard enough from the recent articles, comments section on their official YT channel and the content itself, to know this isn't the game we want, and that the story isn't setting itself up any better than even SR 3-4. This will flop for sure, going by the negative comments from the communities around the net (save for ERa, because those guys love forced diversity crap and you can see for yourself on their official SR thread).
