The earlier Saints Row games were clearly made for a fanbase of gen X and millennial gamers, the soundtracks were tailored to those age groups, the pop culture references were tailored to those age groups, the humor was tailored to those age groups. But this reboot? It honestly seems like they are trying to win a whole new demographic of gen z Fortnite players instead of catering to their existing fanbase of gen x and millennial gamers. It is a totally baffling decision by Volition. How could they watch the hate they got got Agents of Mayhem, watch it become a critical and sales flop, and then think this Saints reboot was a good idea? Surely they would have focus tested this idea before they spent several years and many millions of dollars making the game. It's like they want their parent company, the Embracer Group, to close their studio for releasing 2 flops in a row.

I have seen this as the go-to action for many companies for years now. It just means said company is creatively bankrupt, that they cannot tailor to who they once crafted for before. Remember Thundercats Roar?, and how the show's creator pissed on all the previous fans of the show?. I wouldn't at all be surprised if there are some folks at Volition that are ready to piss on fans over on Twitter, from critique of these new characters.

Devs that have been around long enough should already know who their core fanbase is, their lifeblood. They shouldn't go around trying to pick up Fortnite gamers, who are known to drop shit so fast for the new bling. This seems like a totally stubborn decision on their part, but we'll have to wait and see what happens when we see Gameplay and how the story unfolds, but I'm not expecting any of it to be as memorable as the first 3 SR titles.

Main issue for them though, is that if this is Volition going for a totally new age demographic, then the previous fans are just going to end up resenting them for it and moving onto other games instead, which means Volition has essentially lost part of their core fanbase and likely means of income. Look at what happened to WoW, tons are moving to FF14 because Blizz fucked shit up, so the same could happen to SR if they try to aim for a totally new audience, booting out the previous one.
