Yeah, I forgot the crucial word that is comparatively, as in being comparatively good value right now as the next best thing in it's price class are either the 1660 (non-S or Ti) or the RX 580, both being much weaker than the 6600XT, which is actually slightly more powerful than a 2070. I agree with you that it's not good value when dealing with absolute pricings, but then again, no GPU currently does. |
Well both Nvidia and AMD do sell their FE cards at MSRP. Nvidia sells 3060 Ti for $400 at bestbuy in US (and at MSRP in Canada) while AMD sells theirs directly through AMD.com. I believe they restock every week to every two weeks. But they are very hard to get as Bestbuy is in-store only while needing to camp for 20 hours if not longer and AMD.com sells out instantly. And of course, if you don't live in Canada/US, you don't get FE pricing from Nvidia.
I do agree overall with what you are saying. But I still wouldn't suggest anyone buy a 6600XT even if it's in stock and at MSRP if they have a working GPU but I wouldn't tell them to buy a 1660 either or buy a 3060 at it's scalping prices. But if they need a GPU now, a 6600XT might be the only choice as the alternative is worse as you said.
