On their CPU side, a 5600G which costs slightly less than 5600X gets out performed by the much cheaper 11400 from Intel in CPU performance. On top of that, Intel gives you PCI-E gen 4 while you are stuck with Gen 3 for 5600G.
On the GPU front, a 6600XT is an utter joke. Nvidia gives you a GPU (3060 Ti) that will beat the PS5/Series X. AMD gives you a GPU that will probably get rolled by the consoles for $20 less. And you can't even make the argument that when you put on ray tracing, the 3060 becomes much more competitive against the consoles because we know how bad RDNA 2 really is with higher end Ray Tracing titles. And the 3060 has more Vram.
Now you could say MSRP doesn't matter for GPUs but remember that both AMD and Nvidia do sell GPUs for MSRP. It's just extremely hard to get them. And while you might have to wait for 20 hours at best buy for a chance to get a 3060 Ti at MSRP, you don't have that choice with a 6600XT as it's AIBs only.
Next time around though, they are both going for TSMC. And if the silicon shortage sticks and I am sure the Cryto currency boom will come back since these performance uplifts will surely include mining as well... It will be some essh worthy times. Hopefully Intel can actually fill in the budget GPU category like they have been doing with their CPUs. Cause while these days, I can afford a 5950x and a 3080, I was in the mid ranged segment for most of my life so far. And it's quite shameful how much money you really need to spend these days to get into PC gaming. But that is one of the reasons I am excited for the Steam Deck. |
My greatest fear is that we're likely to no longer have a Ti variant that's going to be akin to what the 1080ti was, meaning I'll have to go back to the 80 models, but even then, this gen shows that's both no longer within my reach, purchase and price wise, so what am I left with exactly that's within my performance range?.
I'm not exactly a budget gamer, but I got used to what the 980ti and 1080ti offered me, but it feels like I've been forced out of that area, and personally I don't like it.
I think I should probably just go with the Deck first, before thinking of upgrading to a whole new rig, because I think I'm in for a bumpy ride.
