Intel Sapphire Rapids HEDT appears in a roadmap with W790 chipset

We will see if their next gen HEDT will actually be useful against threadripper as Intel's HEDT line has been killed by AMD.

Considering how Intel sold the server chip to investors, I doubt it.

To be clear, the 56-core was shown to be ~25% faster in Intels chosen applications compared to a 64-core Epyc Milan... while also consuming ~25% more with 350W compared to 280W. So outside of cherry-picking, AMD should still be faster at equal power consumption, but at least no more ridiculously so.

The big question is, since Sapphire Rapids is still a monolithic chip with smaller versions for consumers who need less cores, will they keep to biggest die(s) exclusively for the servers (and possibly Xeon W) or will they bring them also to their HEDT platform?

I don't see how they can compete with Threadripper if they won't but who knows from Intel as they like resting on their laurels even if it's clear that the competitor is better.
