That's exactly the point. Many chip prices have gone through the roof, not just the GPUs. It's quite possible that due to this, if many new suppliers would be needed to source those, a "Pro" version would cost about as much as a PS5 or Series X if they want to sell at some profit, and that's just a price no one would be willing to pay. Though it might also not be canned, just kicked down the stairs until the prices go down again and Nintendo being able to release the console at a reasonable price. In this case, both the Bloomberg report and the new one could possibly be true, as Nintendo might have planned a release this year, but due to the circumstances, they might have chosen to delay it until next year. |
You're talking like taking those decisions were the easiest thing to do. To make a console, Nintendo or anyone else needs to spend months trying to find not only the right components, but making deals with the suppliers. And those deals include the cost per unit. It's highly inlikely that Nintendo will see an increase in price over what's signed in those contracts and, if they did and that's the cause for this delay/cancellation, the supplier broke the contract and will surely have to pay the fine included in the contract for such instances, as well as the fact that, unless it's a monopoly, it's unlikely it will ever work with Nintendo again.
But if it's Nintendo who has broken the deals, then they'll lose millions for those broken contracts as well as to Foxcon or whoever assembles the machine as they would have also had to book the manufacturing of the device.
So yeah, there so much involved in this that there must be a very, very good reason for scrap the new console.
Of course, all that means nothing if Bloomberg was wrong, and what happened is that Nintendo tried to explore the market to make such device only to find that, in the current situation, it wasn't feasible.
Please excuse my bad English.
