After watching the press event, I am quite impressed
Some notes from the live stream and articles:
- Windows 11 Will be Free upgrade to Windows 10 users
- Coming this fall
- 64 Bit only but still has support for 32 bit apps
- "cloud powered" Start Menu. It pulls in docs from OneDrive maybe?
- Panay says everything is faster. Including "other browsers" from Edge. Windows updates are 40 percent smaller.
- Background updates!
- The search bar searches PC, OneDrive, and the web.
- New multitasking: Snap Layouts
- If you need to deal with something that isn't in your tiled layout, it can be saved in a "Snap Group."
- When you unplug your monitor, the windows resize and don't break! And when you reconnect, they go back to where they should be!
- Going over Edge browser — one click to toggle vertical or horizontal tabs.
- You can make multiple desktops with their own custom wallpapers.
- Teams integration directly into Windows
- Window Widgets. That's the name of the feature.
- They're adding haptics to Windows 11 when you use a stylus.
- New touch keyboard:
- Auto HDR for Games
- Direct Storage
- Xbox Game Pass built into Windows 11 via the Xbox app.
- It integrates xCloud for cloud gaming.
- New Windows Store
- "We want you to bring any technology" to the store. PWA, Win32, and UWP are all supported.
- Developers can be in the store with their own "commerce engine" and Microsoft gets ZERO CUT.
- Developers can use their own payment systems if they want.
- Android Apps coming to windows.
