For my money, pre-2000 is basically what I'd consider retro.
Sixth gen (early-2000s) I'd sort of put in a grey area of "semi-retro." Many of the titles bear resemblance to much of the current AAA stuff on a foundational level, but at the same time the graphics are usually still pretty crude and gameplay usually more limited and linear.
To me once you get to Xbox 360/PS3, it's hard to tag those retro, though one can certainly make a case for the Wii.
