Well. Hybrids can exist.
You have Hybrid laptops for example that transform into a laptop or a tablet...
In the Switch's case the Dock is just a "dumb" device that parses Video/Audio to the display from the handheld, all the magic happens inside the mobile handheld device. - If Nintendo weren't locking down the security there would have been absolutely *zero* technical reason why we couldn't use a USB-C to HDMI adapter to do the same job... But you know, propriety peripheral bullshit is the norm in this industry.
Plus we can unlock the Switch's clockspeeds and run Docked performance in handheld.
The dock is literally a convenience device, nothing more.
But you are correct that the back and forth is essentially redundant at this point, clearly minds cannot be changed. (Although I am open to it if the logic presented itself.)
