The fact that we have to talk about 2022 for things to become even bearable, let alone good, says a lot about the situation... I mean, we're still not even a third into 2021, and we're already looking forward to the next year!

I suppose the 'nice' thing is that the prices are so unbearably high that I don't really even get tempted, so while the situation is painful (I have a choice between a quiet GTX 770 and a ridiculously loud GTX 970), there's not much temptation to resist.

Yea pretty much.

Thanks to the water shortage in Taiwan and Covid still being a thing, it's gonna be a long time before everything balances out as sad as it is. Hopefully no ones GPUs fail until we get over the big hump. Least when the next gen comes along, it really will be the greatest generational leap for many because of the fact that it's so hard to get anything this year loll.

If my GPU fails... I guess I can always go back to three Radeon 7970's in crossfire... Winter isn't far away in Australia.

OLED shares the same issue as Plasma for desktops... Displays on PC can sit on a static screen for 10+ hours... And no manufacturer wants to cover that under it's warranty with burn in.

I think we will need to wait for Micro-LED panels to become a thing and ditch LCD/OLED entirely.

TBH. Happy with my VA 144hz 32" panel for the time being. (That and I don't really have much time for gaming these days.)

Pretty much going to stick with my current LCD panels for the next 5+ years until Micro-LED becomes a thing I think, which is the technology that could replace OLED.

Yeah OLED needs more TLC. I mean more tech-savvy people can get around it but that does sound like a recipe for disaster for the returns department lol.

Sad that there isn't really anything else to replace VA/IPS panels in the near future. Micro-LED's will take years to go mainstream OLED is the only real logical step up with mass production in mind :/

Probably helps that 12-bit HDR isn't a big thing on PC.. Low latency, high refresh rates tend to be what drives monitor purchases and VA is king in that arena right now with some some good enough contrasts.

I am just thankful that TN panels aren't a thing anymore.

Before we get to Micro-LED's we will first transition to LED arrays with backlights that can be turned off in zones, as time goes on we are getting more dimming zones, but once we reach a point where it's extremely dense, then manufacturers will simply just go Micro-LED.
