Pretty much. Now technically, Lian Li does the same thing with their Unifans as you need to connect them to the Controller but the difference is that the Controller can be used by the Motherboard's own RGB software where as with Corsair and a few other companies, you need can only use their own software.

The cool thing about the Lian Li other than their fans being better is the way that they can be daisy chained as it's quite unique.
