Over the past few months, 343's role with Halo: The Master Chief Collection has slowly moved from curator to creator—rolling weapon and vehicle skills into Bungie's original trilogy. Next week, the studio goes one step further by giving Halo 3 its first new armour pieces in well over a decade.
Euro Truck Simulator 2's tribute to vaccine truckers leads to anti-vax confusion, studio apologizes
https://www.pcgamer.com/euro-truck-simulator-2s-tribute-to-vaccine-truckers-leads-to-anti-vax-confusion-studio-apologizes/
Yesterday, Truck Simulator studio SCS Software announced "Hauling Hope," an in-game event for Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator that challenges players to deliver COVID-19 vaccines to various locations around the world. It's a pretty great idea, inspired by last year's "Truck At Home" event, which SCS said drove ETS2 player counts to record levels and led to more than €15,000 ($18,200) in donations to various charities.
Unfortunately, the blog post about the event drew some blowback from fans who complained about the studio injecting "politics" into the game, and so in a press release sent out after the blog post went live, SCS added a bizarre, poorly-conceived clarification.
>> Can you be more dumb than an anti-vaxxer? Oh, yes, I forgot about the flat-earthers.

Canadian studio Klei Entertainment, the developer of indie hits including Mark of the Ninja, Don't Starve, Oxygen Not Included, and Griftlands, is indie no more. The studio announced today that Chinese gaming giant Tencent has acquired a majority stage in the company, a deal that founder Jaime "Bigfoot" Cheng said "helps us navigate a changing industry, and helps us focus on what we do best: making unique experiences that no one else can."
>> I said it last week and I'll say it again, Tencent will dominate the market.
Minecraft's infamous 'Herobrine' world seed has been found
https://www.pcgamer.com/minecrafts-infamous-herobrine-world-seed-has-been-found/
Herobrine is a legend in Minecraft, the star of a creepypasta not dissimilar to Slender Man. He was first reported in a 2010 4chan post, according to a history on the Minecraft Wiki, but went largely unnoticed until a streamer named Copeland shared several images "proving" the odd character's existence. Herobrine appears in singleplayer games, so the story went, where he does weird things like carving 2x2 tunnels in the rocks or cutting all the leaves off of trees; he looks identical to the default Minecraft skin, but with white, empty eyes.
AC Valhalla players find a magic superbow in a pile of rocks
https://www.pcgamer.com/ac-valhalla-players-find-a-magic-superbow-in-a-pile-of-rocks/
Players of Assassin's Creed: Valhalla have found a super-powerful magic bow hidden in a pile of shiny rocks, and they've found it in a way that the developers absolutely did not intend. The secret bow, created by Assassin's Creed's alien space gods, the Isu, is located underneath a pile of rocks. There's some secret path that nobody has quite found yet, but there's also the way where you find the pile of rocks and hit it some and then reload your save and then hit it some more.

Dorfromantik is an upcoming peaceful, strategic little puzzle game that has you laying tiles to create a lovely little countryside of hexagonal tiles. It's a bucolic idyll of rolling fields and dense forests, little meadows, twee railways, and little rivers. It's coming this spring from Toukana Interactive, and there's a demo you can play right now on itch.io.

Take-Two Interactive takes down GTA Online cheat site, makes it donate proceeds to charity

There are only three certainties in life: death, taxes, and GTA Online cheats. (...)
Fighting against this stuff may seem a little like Canute facing down the waves, but Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar's parent company, has clamped down in a major way on a popular cheat service LunaCheats (thanks, Dexerto.). The site has been completely taken down, only leaving behind a statement that reads: "After discussions with Take-Two Interactive, we are immediately ceasing all maintenance, development, and distribution of our cheat menu services.
Gabe Newell believes brain interfaces will create games 'superior' to reality 'fairly quickly'
https://www.pcgamer.com/gabe-newell-believes-brain-interfaces-will-create-games-superior-to-reality-fairly-quickly/
Gabe Newell says the future of gaming may lie in brain-computer interface technology, or BCI for short. In an interview with 1 NEWS, a television network in Newell's home away from home, New Zealand, the co-founder of Valve talks about his vision of what gaming might look like once powered by BCI tech and it sure sounds immersive at a level us mere mortals could hardly imagine—or existentially scary. Take your pick.
