I don't disagree that it hasn't been great PR for them, but it's still irritating to have to have comments sections flooded with people spamming hashtags and negativity and attacking people who disagree with them.

If it makes you feel better, most of the people looking at this 'bad PR' either don't give a shit or have no idea what they're complaining about.  All Nintendo has to do is say nothing because these people will inevitably wear out their welcome and become so annoying that Nintendo fans and the general public will want them to get screwed over even harder.
