I've heard a lot of good things about the newer ones (especially AC Origins) but have yet to play them.

This is the problem for me as well. The reason why Assassin's Creed 2 is one of my favorite games is the era, setting and characters. I enjoyed AC1, Brotherhood and Revelations as well. Black Flag is a solid game but might as well be called Pirate's Creed. I really miss the cities of the Italian renaissance.
