I'm going to toss in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.

It's a game that kinda looked "behind the times" when compared to Donkey Kong Country. Fast forward a couple of years and we really appreciated what they were doing. The SFX chip was doing so many things that we took for granted. Even the GBA couldn't accurately replicate some of the things this game had going on--and that was seven years later!

Don’t know about the times, but personally I’d say artistically it’s one of the prettiest games ever made. And now 25 years later it still looks as good as it did back then.

And.

It has already been mentioned but I’d also like to mention Star Fox on SNES.

I agree. We just blind to it. In 1995, we were obsessed with the future. Games had to have that cgi DKC/Killer Instinct look or that had to have polygons like Tekken or Ridge Racer. Super Mario World 2 was doing amazing things in the 2D realm and was one of the absolute best games of all time, on top of that. I'd say it aged better than pretty much any game that came out that year in both graphics and gameplay. Especially that final boss fight!
