How so, no profits equals no company/layoffs?  If kids want all their Christmas presents, UPS/Fed Ex drivers have to work 60-80 hour work weeks during December to get all packages delivered.  Don't like it, don't buy anything online.  If a company's need taxes submitted on time, CPA's need to put in extra hours to get them submitted.  If a salesperson is having an excellent month closing sales and needs to work extra hours to get everything closed it needs to happen.  In an ideal world everything can be doe in a timely manor...but it doesn't work that way.
