Mediocre to bad series that became good to great in following console generations?

Bit of a mess with IP, but True Crime: Streets of LA was fairly decent game, True Crime: NYC was really not so great and then Sleeping Dogs (what was to be True Crime: Hong Kong) was quite good - in fact, I find it more enjoyable than both GTA IV and V.
