I don't really subscribe to gens the same as many others do. PS4 is SONY's 4th gen, XBONE is MS's 3rd gen, Switch is Nintendo's 8th gen. As far as competitive gen wise I go with _when_ consoles were released and spent the majority of their life in competing with other offerings.
I gave up on handhelds quite a while ago. If/When Nintendo releases a Home Console only Switch Heavy Pro, then I will get a Switch. So I went with PS4, PC, XBONE.
