Again, there were more titles in the past but still, there were 14 years with turn-based combat and almost 20 without by now.

Does count. You can pick at technicalities, so can I. X, X-2, 12 and 13 all had variations of turn based, 15 didn't. That's 1.

1 FF game in a decade is not a good sample size for how popular FF is as action vs Turn based. FF is popular enough to sell millions turn based or not, this will always be the case. The difference? SquEnix has stopped making Turn based FF games, this isn't a consumer thing, SquEnix just stopped making them.
