If I had to guess and give AMD the benefit of doubt instead of assuming they are throwing in the towel, maybe the reason for the lateness is because they are having yield problems. As far as I know and could be wrong, this is the first time they are trying out a monolithic 80CU GPU for consumers.

I just hope that they release the 3080 "competitor" this year and not let it slip into next year where it has to compete with Nvidia's refresh.
