In September 2018, Ono was reportedly no longer in charge of Division 2 (which makes fighting games like Street Fighter and Marvel Versus Capcom), and was replaced by Ryozo Tsujimoto (Monster Hunter producer).
That might have been what made Ono plan to leave Capcom, or retire.

Plot thickins - Tsujimoto is the the son of the current CEO and brother of the president.

I'm thinking that CAPCOM is pushing the vets out of top positions in favor of younger fresher developers.

I think Capcom is going to focus on Resident evil, monster hunter, devil may cry which did very well and pretty much saved Campcom. I also think they will abondon games/genres which are doing poorly like street fighter, which iconic as it is, is pretty much dead. Some employees are probably not too happy about that. But SF V didn't sell well at all.

Street Fighter V has sold over 4 mill overtaking vanilla Street Fighter IV and has become the 3rd best selling Street Fighter game. This on top of the fact that SONY paid for the development of game as well. Nothing but money for CAPCOM.
