I think there's a degree of diminishing returns.

Difference is smaller still.

Obviously there are limitations to comparing screenshots from individual titles. Different compression genres, etc. (and tbh I did check to make sure screenshots were on the original hardware, but things get mislabled on the net), but I think if you compare the best looking games from the end of one generation to the best looking launch titles of the next, the gap is getting consistently smaller. And especially because this time around we had mid gen boosts to the consoles, the gap shrinks further. Whether or not that's enough to excite is an individual thing. For me though, not really.

Its not really fair to compare early PS5 games to late PS4 games.

On that metric you should put up Ghost of Tsushima verses Horizon: Forbidden West since they are using the same engine. But here's HZ1 vs HZ2. There's clearly a leap up in fidelity. Right click to see images in full size for better comparison.

PS5)

I think it's fair because it shows the immediate benefit of being an early adopter. What level of fidelity is available to me now, vs what I'll gain by upgrading. I'm sure the games will get better looking over time, and when that happens, my hype level will adjust accordingly.
