Not as one sided as you think. Metroid Prime is one of my favourite games of all time. The IP however has never as popular as it’s critical acclaim. Not on Mario or Zelda levels, not even close. So yes I am claiming double standard here. Not attacking Nintendo fans, I’m just using it as an example of a scenario that didn’t receive backlash.
Trailers should be sufficient to generate hype, I wasn’t aware that the “council of gamers” had a secret meeting and decreed all trailers going forward must have a mandatory gameplay requirement to be acceptable.
