The 8.5 comes from the glaring defects the game have like your body entering other objects, you floating around, etc... a very good game, but not a 10.

Perhaps if they had used the aid of ND to iron out the bugs and things like that it would be an easy 10.

Everyone has a different interpretation of a 10 and a 10 is never a perfect game. Look at Tony Hawks Pro skaker 2 and all the 10's it got and again I'll mention TW3 cause it's a staple in this, when that game released on ps4 it was a MESS, they've fixed and refined it now but there were so many issues that you'd come across hourly like falling into a hole and being utterly stuck, not that this happened to me but I had problems on the hour every hour and as the month went on they slowly patched some of the most glaring stuff out, waaaay worse than Tsushima but still on that initial playthrough I rated it a 10, I know you don't and couldn't get through it but it's my GOAT and on my most receent third run in Janurary it's the most polished it's ever been but it doesn't matter, I'd still rate 1.0 a 10 cause it's that good for me.

But hey, Where are these glaring issues you speak of? I have only seen one so far and that is Jin getting caught on rocks after a jump, the camera  which I've now mastered with no hand holding lockon needed and the zoom outs when talking to NPC's which is there, obviously to save animation time.. I've not seen any clipping or majour animation flaws

I have nothing against you finding both games 10. But when I evaluate a game I don't do by the fun I had (otherwise I would detract points from TLOU2 by not liking to much how it plays and for the story being inferior to TLOU1 to me, and would give a 10 to GoT), I evaluate as technically as possible.

So when the animation, hit collision and physics have such obvious flaws I can't give it a 10, while on TLOU2 the only point I could take out is the story not being as good as the first because everything else is leaps and bounds better. That is also the reason why I complain when a reviewer gives less than 9 for TLOU2 or 7.5 to GoT.
