Supposedly the rumour is a fake.
The source many tech blogs used to report on @nvidia #Ampere using a new 12 pin PCIE power connector is fake.

The connector exists but it's very unlikely that it will be used on Ampere consumer cards. Personally I can see it on a Titan but I highly doubt we will see that on their gaming targeted cards.
