Australia is actually pretty safe, the amount of people we have who die per year from snakes/crocodiles/etc is actually really low and we haven't had a spider death in decades.

Yeah spiders aren't that dangerous. Venomous snakes definitely are though.

Not sure about the snakes, but for insects at least isn't that much more to do with the diseases that they carry? ie. the insects themselves aren't all that dangerous, it's just that there's a high chance they could be carrying a deadly disease which they can pass on to you.

Yeah mosquitoes mostly.
