They may have gotten tired of developing two versions of their OS and have decided to fully unify their software and hardware ecoystem. And given that they design their own ARM chips, they can save themselves money (that I'd be surprised if it reaches the end customer).

We'll see if that works for them or if they'll have to backtrack in a couple of years.
