There are still plenty of turn based JRPGs though. Persona, Trails, Dragon Quest & those alchemist games to name just a few. We'll have a new very intriguing turn based JRPG next month with Fairy Tail too. Perhaps there are less than during the 4th/5th/6th gens. But there are less games made these days than back then full stop. They require more people/time than they used to. Or are you arguing because not many reach some arbitrary sales figure? 10m? Only 1 JRPG franchise has ever consistently hit 10m, and still does. 5m? Only 2 have consistently hit 5m and they both still do (although 1 of them isn't turn based anymore). And I listed Persona as an example. That's NOT an example of one of the most popular franchises riding anything out though. Quite the opposite. Persona had never even reached 1m sales before Persona 4 Golden. And now Persona 5 has sold over 3m. If turn based games were declining in popularity then how exactly did a turn based franchise more than triple its sales within 2 titles? And the reason this conversation keeps happening is because some people continue trying to push a false narrative despite the evidence saying otherwise. Just like EA with their "people don't like single player games anymore" bullshit. |
PS4 have over 4000 games, I don't think PS1 had this many, for sure I know N64, GC, Xbox, DC, Saturn, etc didn't.
