Does that mean they stop trying? It is not whether they succeed in creating that impact or not but they go in with attitude that they want too. I enjoy all forms of RPG's, not particularly biased towards any one (My favorite Battle systems are Grandia and Valkryie Profile 2). In regards to Final Fantasy, I have stated multiple time I would like to see a return back Final Fantasy 12's battle system. So much more can be done with it, but It is ridiculous to expect Final Fantasy to return to anything resembling Final Fantasy X and under. It is just not going to happen. You are delirious if you don't think that turn based has not lost its appeal. We would not be discussing it if it were not the case.

Trying to do achieve something and taking pride in something are two different things though. The former anybody can (and should) do. The latter you need to actually be successful first otherwise you just look like a fool.

While I agree that Square Enix are unlikely to make a turn based FF again any time soon, claiming turn based games have lost their appeal is categorically false. Both Dragon Quest 11 and Persona 5 were turn based yet still were received well and sold millions of copies. People found them very appealing. Pokemon is turn based yet continues to be the highest selling JRPG every single generation since it first released (and on a sales per year rather than sales per game basis it would be the #1 RPG full stop, Japanese/Western turn based/action it doesn't matter, Pokemon would beat them all).

As I said, you may not find turn based games appealing and that's your prerogative, but claiming they're not appealing generally is a lie, plain and simple.

You are using three JRPG's, all from highly popular franchises, to prove that turn based has not lost appeal ... and one of them is Pokemon? c'mon man. That you should tell you something. When a style of game loses appeal the most popular franchises in that style will ride it out because they have the established fanbase to do so. Everything else goes dormant. I am not saying they "themselves" are not appealing; Lets try it this way - Turn based JRPGS are still fun and they still have their place, it is not as prolific as it used to be though.. thus losing appeal. Shooters are appealing, so we have a shit of them (I don't care for them but its the truth), open world games are appealing so we have a shit of them. We have had this conversation over a dozen times this gen about the lack of turn based JPRG's.... that can only happen if we don't have a shit ton of them!
