PS4 install base will be lucky to get to 10m in Japan, and PS5 install base will likely be even less.  Switch install base will be 2-4 times that.  It really makes zero financial sense for a third party to release on PS5 unless it has a significant Western market.  Everything else will be on Switch, or at the very least multiplat.

How many of those 1 billion games were sold in Japan?

Japan isn’t the be all end all for most games. Being exclusive for any platform doesn’t make sense until someone paid them to make it. The switch still doesn’t get big third party games so I don’t see how you expect exclusive titles to start coming. It hasn’t even gotten a monster hunter yet

While Japan isn't the end all, be all; I am concerned that Nintendo is not even getting some of the older Japanese games, especially ones like Persona 5 (or Royal), Tekken, Soul Calibur, or the like. And its not like Nintendo Switch is just selling well in Japan, its selling well everywhere else too. Forget Japan, how well does the Switch have to do overseas in order to gain the attention from the big Japanese third party developers in regards to their high-profile games? Selling upgraded last-gen ports (i.e., Capcom) with only one noted original AA-AAA title (Mega Man 11) is not integrating oneself to the userbase. Square Enix, while not perfect, at least sold Octopath Traveler, DQXIS, and, soon, Bravely Default II, along with its plethora of FF ports/remasters. Where's Ace Attorney or Monster Hunter for Capcom? Heck, even if its a Sony-exclusive, I would like to see Street Fighter V: Champion's Edition on Switch.
