Let's hope those AMD chips can actually sustain the claimed clocks, tho i recall they launch updates to the codes of their processors after launch to help them reach the claimed clocks, but I don't recall seeing any review that put that to test. Meanwhile, Intel is ready to fight back: Rumor: Intel’s Next-Gen 10nm Willow Cove Cores Bring 25% & Golden Cove Cores Bring 50% IPC Increase Over Skylake CPUs – 7nm Ocean Cove With 80% IPC Uplift Over Skylakehttps://wccftech.com/intel-next-gen-10nm-willow-cove-golden-cove-ocean-cove-ipc-increase-rumor/ |
Personally speaking and with my X370 motherboard, I could never reach the advertised 4.6Ghz boost. I think if I remember correctly, some can get close if they overclock a single CCX and disable SMT and etc but that's like meh. Could also be that I am running on X370.
We will see about Intel though. I am planning my next major upgrade when DDR5 comes out since Intel and AMD should have new sockets around that time as maybe PCI-E 5.0 as well. So if Intel makes a really good case with their CPUs, I may go back to Intel again but their 10nm has been pretty horrible so far.
