The news, part two:
Discover tentacled horror at the bottom of the sea in the strategy-RPG Stirring Abyss
https://www.pcgamer.com/discover-tentacled-horror-at-the-bottom-of-the-sea-in-the-strategy-rpg-stirring-abyss/
We said in 2018 that it'd be swell if game developers would ease up on the Cthulhu mythos and put some effort into other kinds of horror, and I think that position still stands. That doesn't seem likely to happen anytime soon, though, and once in awhile a game featuring faces with too many tentacles comes along that looks like it might be different enough to be interesting. Stirring Abyss, a strategy-RPG about a submarine that's run into a spot of trouble at the bottom of the ocean, might be one of them.
Metro Exodus ditches Denuvo
https://www.pcgamer.com/metro-exodus-ditches-denuvo/
Metro Exodus is no longer one of the many games laden with Denuvo, having removed the DRM in a recent hot fix. There's not much else to the patch, but it's good news for anyone who isn't a fan of the controversial anti-tamper software.
Phantasy Star Online 2 launch marred by how shitty the Windows Store is
https://www.pcgamer.com/phantasy-star-online-2-launch-marred-by-how-shitty-the-windows-store-is/
The eight-year wait for Phantasy Star Online 2's western launch is finally over—for some, that is. Others are stuck with errors or bugs that are preventing them from playing, many of which are due to PSO2's reliance on the absolutely awful Windows Store. It's getting in the way of what should otherwise be an exciting moment.
Dishonored studio Arkane teases 20th anniversary celebration plans
https://www.pcgamer.com/dishonored-studio-arkane-teases-20th-anniversary-celebration-plans/
I find it hard to believe that Arkane Studios has been around for 20 years, but facts are facts: It was founded in 1999, released its first game (the brilliant Arx Fatalis) in 2002, and—with all due respect—languished in relative obscurity until Dishonored put it on the map in a big way in 2012. And while the official anniversary won't arrive until October 1 (according to Wikipedia at least), the big celebration plans will be unveiled, at least in part, tomorrow.
>> That tomorrow should be today.
Darkest Dungeon's PvP mode comes out tomorrow, and it's free for everyone
https://www.pcgamer.com/darkest-dungeons-pvp-mode-comes-out-tomorrow-and-its-free-for-everyone/
On April 1, Red Hook Studios announced The Butcher's Circus, a PvP add-on for Darkest Dungeon, which it immediately clarified was not an April Fool's gag, despite the date and the fact that Darkest Dungeon is about the last game you'd expect to have PvP. Today it revealed the release date, which is very close (tomorrow), and the price, which is very low—it's free.
Trackmania will be free-to-play, but you'll need to subscribe for certain features

Ubisoft Nadeo's Trackmania Nations reboot will be free-to-play, but it'll also have two subscription tiers if you want access to some of the arcade racer's advanced features. For those who don't pay anything, solo and multiplayer races will be available, with the roster of 25 tracks rotating on a quarterly basis. You'll also be able to play user-created tracks and "try" (which I take to mean "demo") track, replay and skin editors.
How A Total War Saga: Troy blends myth and reality
https://www.pcgamer.com/how-a-total-war-saga-troy-blends-myth-and-reality/
A Total War Saga: Troy is a bit of a detour for the historical strategy series. It's the first full game from Creative Assembly Sofia, and the furthest back in time Total War has ever gone. Indeed, it's so far back that it's mythological, but this isn't a fantasy romp. A new blog post from the team digs into how they've adapted the legend of Troy, grounding it in a way that feels historical.
