One thing that a person always has to remember in a study like this is that correlation does not necessarily mean causation.  It could be that quality games cause high sales.  On the other hand it could also mean that high selling games cause high review scores.  Many of these games are sequels and reviewers already know that a certain series is popular even before the next entry is released.  There can be incentives for giving a popular game a high score.  And of course the third option is that there is a different underlying cause than the first two possibilities, and this is what causes the correlation.
