Honestly its quite intriguing, Ninetendo published or joint published the Wii U version but I don't think Nintendo have any ownership over the IP or game itself otherwise I simply couldn't see it being on PS4 & PC. Maybe thats why its pegged as "Remaster" as oppose to a port. Its technically a separate game maybe. |
Just go back and read up on it. Nintendo still co-owns it. Thing is it lost money on Wii U. It was a failure. Platinum wanted to bring it to Switch and other platforms. Nintendo would not pay for it. Gave them the go-ahead but they would have to find the funding themselves. If Platinum outright owned it. They would just say it. Instead, they keep thanking Nintendo for being so kind to them about this. Now, this part I will speculate but it makes a ton of sense. While Nintendo didn't want to dump more money into W101 because they lost big last time. They value Platinum as a partner and did this to keep good relations. Not that unheard of. Just don't count on it happening again anytime soon. Hell, I remember when SEGA allowed one of their IPs on a competing console in the 16-bit era.
