Quad Channel DDR3 1866 is still faster than dual chanel DDR4 3200.
DDR3 might be dead, but it's an old system and still capable of running the latest games with the occasional GPU upgrade, the memory bandwidth is still "hanging in there" with your average mid-range PC.
Been keeping an eye out for a cheap Xeon E5-2690 v2 and upgrading it to 10-cores, 20 threads with a max clock of 3.6ghz, can usually get them for under $300 AUD if you are patient enough.

Yeah. Basically AMD is going to hand the issue over to motherboard vendors to work around it.
I am going to assume that some boards will just have a BIOS that will support a "range" of chips and you need to swap between them for different CPU's.

Age of Empires is doing really well during the COVID era right now as well.
They shouldn't have closed down Ensemble.
