I don't know the ad but Microsoft didn't imply that when they announced it. Official blog post: "Smart Delivery: This technology empowers you to buy a game once and know that – whether you are playing it on Xbox One or Xbox Series X – you are getting the right version of that game on whatever Xbox you’re playing on. We’re making the commitment to use Smart Delivery on all our exclusive Xbox Game Studios titles, including Halo Infinite, ensuring you only have to purchase a title once in order to play the best available version for whichever Xbox console they choose to play on. This technology is available for all developers and publishers, and they can choose to use it for titles that will be release on Xbox One first and come to the Xbox Series X later." https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2020/02/24/what-you-can-expect-next-generation-gaming/ Madden NFL 21 will be on both Xbox One and Xbox Series X and while there is a free upgrade, it's only for a limited time, so it's not using Smart Delivery. https://screenrant.com/madden-21-xbox-series-x-no-smart-delivery-ea/ To me it's surprising that so many 3rd party devs chose to use it. With Cyberpunk, AC Valhalla, DiRT 5, Yakuza Like a Dragon and Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 we already have quite a few heavy hitters and there are still tons of unannounced games left. Of course I knew the 1st party studios were using it but other than that I expected only a few indie titles. But let's not derail this thread any further. |
I agree to not derail the thread. Will just put that this gen we got several games with crossbuy and free upgrades on the start of the gen.
Also This technology is available for all developers and publishers, and they can choose to use it for titles that will be release on Xbox One first and come to the Xbox Series X later.
The way it is phrased then what about games that launch at the same time on both? But thanks for clarifying that their release they only commit their titles and leave other devs to chose (I believe they would have some resistance from devs if they demanded all to follow).
