You used the on paper definition. I prefer to use the definition actual gamers use. Yours has a disconnect from in-practice. I stand by my reasoning, it’s simply not necessary. 

What matters most in this case is context. So he being pedantic over the word is useless.

We can use whatever other name for it, the point is that several would think motion controls are pointless and unnecessary.
