I can tell you don’t care about how the console looks, but if it does end up looking like the Series X I am pretty sure the narrative will adjust to make it seem like it’s no big deal overall when people do care. Sony is a leader, not a follower and this will register on some level. Ill only go back into my gaming bunker if MS screws up 2013 proportions ;) I don’t see that happening anytime soon. |
Yes if PS5 looks similar to XSX sure there will be discussion over it, with some using it to jab on Sony and others defending, usual day.

If the announcement of the Xbox One wasn't such a disaster this generation would have been completely different is my point, Sony wouldn't have had near the success with the PS4 it did. And in comparison to their other products, the PS3 was a disappointment period by their standards. Much like the PS2 and the wild success it had, Sony basically had no competition this generation for years. It is clear from the last few generations that brand loyalty isn't as strong as many think it is. Sony had no competition in home console gaming with the PS2, Nintendo won last generation with the Wii, Sony won the first half of this generation and Nintendo won the second half with the Switch. It will be very interesting to see what will happen with this generation between a system that is hitting it's peak (Switch) and last generation hardware still very capable (Xbox One X/PS4 Pro) of performing well. I just don't see the SXS/PS5 having great launches in the current world (coronavirus and a real possibility of massive unemployment). |
And your evidence that it would play completely different is? Again PS3 won against X360 having a much bigger disaster launch taking much longer to correct (first took more than half the gen to correct while the second corrected in like 10% timeframe of the gen).
Look at USA and UK, those were the only places X360 won against PS3, and this gen Xbox done well enough on those so even if the reveal was much better there is no indication that it would grant more than 10M extra sales. That wouldn't really change this gen, and we don't even know if these would mean lost sales to PS4.
But believe what you want. PS4 sales curve was basically unafected by Switch (hint they don't directly compete, same with Wii vs X360 and PS3).
