If you want something that makes you die from cuteness, you should try watching a couple of episodes of Chii's sweet home.
It's a brilliant manga/anime about a little kitten that gets adopted by a human family of three and moves into their apartment. It has no story, really. It's more a collection of events that all feel important and adventurous when viewed from the little kittens perspective.

The episodes are short. Around 3 minutes or so, so you can afford watching two or three as a test without worrying about loosing too much time. Doesn't require much emotional investment.
The manga is awesome, one of very few full color manga I have ever heard about. If you can get your hands on it in japanese I would recommend it.
