At current exchange rates USD500 is AUD 820. With GST that becomes AUD902. Plus greater shipping costs and less economies of scale. AUD could improve but not a whole heap.

I can see them making it $899 to say its under $900. They will want to avoid going higher if they can. I know its a long time ago, but the PS3 launched at $999 and that was a PR nightmare and a launch disaster.

Usually improvements of the AUD has occurred because the USD has tanked harder than the AUD.. Like during the Global Financial Crisis where the USA entered recession and AUS did not.

We are also tied with the chinese economy as they buy all our resources, so when they do well, we do well.

Personally I will be dumping my Xbox One X into the games room and getting the Series X on release day to put in the lounge room.

Everything is unpredictable right now, our COVID rates are low which is going to give us a long term economic advantages I think.

Yes, though Microsoft gets paid and reports to investors in USD. So the specific reasons why the USD is much stronger than the AUD right now are not overly consequential.

Our ties to China are certainly strong. But China's performance is also strongly linked to the USA. One of our key links is services, particularly education. It will be at least 12 months before that recommences en mass.

Ultimately I hope you're right, and our rates see those parts of our economy not reliant on overseas rebound relatively quickly.
